Valerie Lewis: A Proven Leader for Our Community
Valerie Lewis is a graduate of the University of Virginia and University of Virginia School of Law. Valerie served as the Assistant Vice President and Assistant Secretary, Legal, for Safeway Inc./The Albertsons Companies. Prior to joining Safeway, Valerie practiced with a national law firm in the state and federal courts. Her legal acumen and extensive experience have equipped her with the tools to guide organizations through complex legislative, regulatory, and compliance issues.
Valerie’s deep understanding of legislative processes and her work with California’s State Assembly also give her a unique perspective in safeguarding the interests of her constituents. She will leverage her knowledge to ensure equitable access to resources and services for all.
A lifelong advocate for the Oakland community, Valerie has served on numerous boards, including the Alameda Health System, Alta Bates Medical Center, the Oakland African-American Chamber of Commerce, and Oakland’s first Environmental Commission. Her engagement extends to various other nonprofit organizations, reinforcing her unwavering commitment to Oakland’s growth and well-being. She has also served on several national and international boards.
Valerie’s leadership and dedication have not gone unnoticed. She has been repeatedly recognized by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the Most Influential and Forever Influential Women in Bay Area Business. Additionally, she has earned accolades for her work in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, most notably from the Golden Gate Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
